If you want to go camping in the beautiful French countryside, there are plenty of options to choose from, but those in the know head to the Jura La Pergola campsite located in the mid east of France, close to Geneva, the Swiss border, and the Jura Mountains Regional Natural Par, in the heart of Frances lake district on the shores of Lake Chalain. The well maintained campsite has plenty to do right on site, but most come for the hiking and biking opportunities along the trails, as well as water sports like kayaking and wind surfing.

The site has a vast range of accommodation options available to guests including camping pitches available for tents, motorhomes, and caravans, and wooden cabins for extra comfort. The touring pitches are large at over 100 square metres big offering plenty of space. Most of the pitches are shaded and have electrical and water hook ups, particularly useful those bring their motorhomes.

If you don't have a motorhome and don't want to camp, there is a range of accommodation options to choose from depending on whether you visit as a couple, group, or family.

Cottage Taos Single Chalet

The onsite Cottage Taos Single is a particularly popular accommodation option. It offers a luxury space inclusive of a suite with double bed, a en suite bathroom with hot showers, a fully equipped kitchen and a living space which leads out onto a private terrace with outdoor furniture. It's great for couples looking for a quiet retreat, though there are sofa pullout beds if you bring children. A barbeque is available to cook up camp dinners, and sun loungers to relax in the beautiful surroundings.

Cottage Taos Family Chalet

The Cottage Taos Family is large measuring in at over 36 square metres. It is nestled in the VIP area of the campsite which is quiet and secluded. It features 2 bedrooms, both of which are en suite with toilets and hot showers. One of the bedrooms has a double bed, the other has a set of bunk beds. It also boasts a kitchenette with stove and fridge, and a private wooden terrace with outdoor furniture, sun loungers and a barbecue.

Cottage Pur Chalet

The Cottage Pur Chalet accommodates up to 4 people making it perfect for families and small groups. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and another with 2 single beds. There is also a living room with leads out onto a private wooden terrace, a kitchenette with fridge and microwave, air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter. It measures in at over 22 square metres.

Cottage Evasion Chalet

The Cottage Evasion Chalet is 26 square metres and has two bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with two single beds. Similar to the other chalets, it features a kitchen with everything you need to cook up meals, a private bathroom with toilet and hot showers, air conditioning and heating, and a private terrace complete with outdoor furniture, barbecue, and sun loungers.

Cottage Relax Chalet

The Cottage Relax Chalet is even more luxurious. Though smaller at 24 square metres, it has everything you need including 2 bedrooms with double or twin beds, perfect for families, a living room and dining space, and a kitchenette which opens out onto a terrace which is covered by a shady awning and comes with outdoor furniture, sun loungers, and a barbecue. It comes with fabulous views over the lake and the surrounding French countryside. In the summer, its presently cooled with air conditioning, and in the winter its cozy and warm.

Habana Top Presta Chalet

The Habana Top Presta measures in at 24 square metres. The wooden chalet has 2 spacious accommodation with double and twin beds. It's well designed with a living and dining space, a small kitchenette with everything you need to make lunch and dinner, and is surrounded by wonderful landscape, making it perfect for kids who want to explore. It also features a flat screen TV, a private bathroom with hot showers, and a wooden terrace with garden furniture and sun loungers overlooking the French countryside.

Habana Top Chalet

The 26 square metre Habana Top Chalet has 2 bedrooms with double and twin beds. It can accommodate up to 6 guests using the pull out sofa bed. It's a well thought out chalet with living space, a kitchenette with fridge, freezer, oven, and stove, and a private bathroom with hot showers. In the summer, the chalet is cooled with air conditioning, and in the winter, it is heated making it warm and cozy. Outside, you will find a covered terrace with a table and chairs, barbecue, and sun loungers overlooking the French countryside.

Habana Chalet

The Habana Chalet is one of the best at the campsite. The 26 square metre space has 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with 3 single beds, making it ideal for families. There is also a pull out sofa bed, which means it can accommodate up to 6 people. It's nestled in a wonderful little position in with views overlooking the countryside. Like the rest of the chalets, it has a living room and dining space, a kitchen with stove and fridge freezer, and an outdoor private covered terrace complete with outdoor furniture, sun loungers, and a barbecue.

Sunshine Chalet

The large 31 square metre Sunshine Chalet is perfect for families with children. It has two spacious bedrooms with double and single beds. Another guest can be accommodated on the pull out sofa bed. It is comfortable and well designed with everything you need including an open plan living space and dining room, a kitchen with oven and fridge. It's fully air conditioned and heated in the winter. There is also a private terrace with views over the French countryside. Sit out and cook up a camp dinner on the chalet's barbecue.

Resort Top Presta Chalet

The Resort Top Presta Chalet has 3 bedrooms houses in the 27 square metre space. All the bedding and blankets are provided on the double and single beds. It can accommodate up to 8 guests. Like the other chalets, there is a kitchenette, a living room, a dining space, a private bathroom with hot showers, and a terrace with outdoor furniture.

Resort 6 Chalet

The Resort 6 Chalet is truly comfortable. Don't worry about pitching your tent. Walk straight into the large 32 square metre chalet complete with 3 bedrooms, a kitchenette with fridge and microwave, a private bathroom, air conditioning, heating, and a living and dining space. Cook up meals in the kitchen or on the barbeque and eat al fresco on the private covered terrace.

Resort + 6 Chalet

Lastly, there is the Resort + 6 Chalet which can accommodate up to 6 people in a luxurious 40 square metre space. There is room for everyone in the living and dining room, the three bedrooms which have double and single beds, and the large private terrace. There is a private bathroom with a basin and a hot shower.

Onsite, there is plenty to keep the whole family busy. Kids between 5 and 12 can use the mini club which offers a range of crafts and activities including group games, ping pong, drawing, and trampolines. There is a large outdoor swimming pool which overlooks the beautiful Lake Chalain and is open throughout the day. The pool is heated and there are life guards all year round. Surrounding the pool is a vast terrace where guests can lounge around, sun bathe, and read their books.

Nearby, guests can go canoeing along the rivers and waterways, as well as going rock climbing, canyoning, and rafting. Just ask at reception, and the staff can book you onto an excursion. Alternatively, you can go helping around the lakes. There are almost 50 different hikes to take, from short hour long walks, to challenging day treks. These include the Lake Chalain circuit, the Lake Bonlieu circuit, and the Lake Vouglans circuit. Anglers should head straight to the area which offers some of the finest fishing in this part of France. Here, beginners or experts can cast in their lines into the rivers, streams, and lakes to catch all manner of fish including salmon, whitefish, pike, trout, and lamprey. Be sure to get a permit license before going fishing.

The onsite Planchas Restaurant serves up some incredible French mountain cuisine overlooking the the beautiful Lake Chalain. They also have a fully stocked bar with cold beers and wines. In the Pergola grocery store, guests can buy freshly baked breads, vegetables, local produce, newspapers, and all the provisions you will need for you holiday.
