Catalunya, also called Catalonia, is an antonymous region of Spain in the North East of Spain. It's characterized by the long coast and Pyrenees Mountains to the north. The beautiful landscape, rocky coastline, sandy beaches, and hospitable Catalonian culture makes for a great holiday with both the family or as a couple. The Costa Brava runs along the Northern edge of the region, and is particularly popular with campers, as is the regions of Tarragona. Here's a rundown of some of the best campsites in Catalunya.

Playa Montroig Camping Resort

Playa Montroig Camping Resort is located near to the town of Montroig near Tarragona. It has plenty of pitches for both campsites, caravans, and tents, with plenty of shade from the trees in the park. The site also has comfortable mobile homes and bungalows complete with kitchenettes, and private bathrooms. It's located a few minutes away from the beach and features a children's playground and a sports ground. The campsite boasts a spa with a sauna, hot tub, solarium, and a beauty centre. The outdoor swimming pool and toddlers' pool is a great way to cool off in the midday Spanish heat. At the resort, guests can learn wind surfing, water skiing, and snorkelling. The onsite restaurant serves up excellent Spanish dishes and pizza, and freshly baked bread is delivered every morning.

Camping Resort Sanguli

Located along the Golden Coast, the Sanguli Resort Campsite is one of the best places to stay in Catalunya. Great for families with children, the campsite has pitches available for tents, motorhomes, and caravans. They also have luxury glamping mobile homes which are themed like an African lodge, a colourful Caribbean home, and a Polynesian hut. Getting around the large campsite isn't hard on the small train which runs all day and stops in four different locations. One of the best things about the campsite is the outdoor water facilities. There are several themed pools which include slides, and comfortable sun loungers. The site includes all the facilities that one expects including a small grocery store, restaurant and bar serving up excellent cuisine, toilet blocks with hot showers, and much more.

Campsite La Torre del Sol

Campsite La Torre del Sol is located in Tarragona right next to the sea. There are a variety of pitches available for tents, campervans, and caravans, some of which are shaded. They also have comfortable mobile homes and bungalows which offer air conditioning, kitchenettes, private bathrooms with hot showers, and private terraces with outdoor furniture. The nearby beaches, of which there are both sandy and pebble beaches, are wonderful places to sun bathe, swim, or snorkel. Back at the campsite, there is an outdoor swimming pool, another heated pool, and a shallow toddlers' pool. It also features a spa with a sauna, steam room, fitness centre, and hot tubs. There is an excellent onsite restaurant and fully stocked bar.

Campsite Las Dunas

Campsite Las Dunas is located near to the town of Sant Pere Pescador and the city of Girona. It has plenty of pitches available for tents, motorhomes, and caravans, some of which are shaded. They also have a series of mobile homes and bungalows to rent which are fully equipped and include private bathrooms with hot showers. Guests can go hiking, cycling and take part in water sports like wind surfing and sea kayaking. One of the advantages are pets are allowed on site throughout the year.

Campsite Park Playa Bara

Campsite Park Playa Bara is located in Tarragona close to the sea and the sandy beaches of the region. They have plenty of pitches available for tents, campervans, and caravans, some of which are provided with shade. Like many of the campsites, they provide comfortable and spacious mobile and bungalow accommodation to those who don't want to camp. They staff on site offer a range of excursion and entertainment programs and there is spa offering guests steam rooms, sauna, solarium, and beauty centre facilities. There is an onsite self service restaurant, and a fully stocked bar. At the beach, guests can learn to wind surf and kite surf.

Campsite Cala Llevado

Campsite Cala Llevado is situated along the Tossa de Mar near the city of Girona. They have clearly marked out pitches which are shaded and can be used by campers, motorhomes, and caravans with vehicles. The Cala Llevado beach is sandy, and located just down the road from the campsite. Here, guests can sun bathe, swim, snorkel, or take part or learn watersports. The site also has a few bungalows for rent which have air conditioning, and private bungalows. On site, there is a playground, and sports field, and the staff organize a number of activities and entertainment throughout the year. There is an onsite restaurant serving up simple but delicious Catalonian food and pizza, as well as a fully stocked bar. The campsite has freshly baked breads delivered every morning. Internet access is available throughout the camp.

Campsite Illa Mateua

Campsite Illa Mateua is located in l'Escala near the city of Girona. It's close to both the ocean and the forests. Guests are treated to a glorious beach where they can sunbathe and swim in the azure Mediterranean Sea. They have marked out pitches available for tents, campervans, and caravans which are all benefit from shade. On site there is an adventure playground and a sports ground for kids and adults, an outdoor heated and non-heated outdoor swimming pool. Dogs are permitted throughout the year including the summer season. Nearby guests can learn to snorkel, wind surf, sea kayak, raft, and water ski.
