Holidays to Bora Bora

by Guest

The small South Pacific island of Bora Bora is located just northwest of Tahiti in French Polynesia. This gorgeous island is one of the most frequented vacation and cruise destinations in the world due to its beautiful sand-laced islets and breathtaking turquoise lagoon which is protected by a vast coral reef, and is widely regarded as being an unbeatable location to scuba dive. There are so many incredible things to take advantage of during your holidays to Bora Bora, and here we will explore why so many people plan to spend their vacation in Bora Bora.

Matira Beach, Bora Bora

One of the only beaches in Bora Bora with public access is Matira Beach, and that makes it super popular among the tourists who visit the area. With its crystal clear waters and incredibly soft, powdery sand, it is certainly no wonder why the beach draws in so many people. The beach is also dotted with a variety of shops, restaurants and resorts, which makes it a great spot to enjoy and take in some rest and relaxation.

Mount Otemanu and 4x4 Excursions in Bora Bora

Mount Otemanu is looming, ancient volcano that sits high above the lagoon of Bora Bora.  The summit of Mt. Otemanu can’t be reached due to the jagged rocks at the peak, however there are a ton of options that will allow you to explore this iconic mountain. You can hike one of the numerous trails (do not forget to enlist the help of a guide as many of the portions of the trails will require ropes), or even take a helicopter ride, however for the more adventurous, many people actually tend to prefer to check out the volcano on one of the infamous 4x4 excursions on their holidays to Bora Bora!

Coral Gardens in Bora Bora

Located directly across from the Sofitel Marara on a small islet just east of the main island, you will find a gorgeous coral reef. One of the best features of opting to explore the reef is the fact that it is situated in quite shallow water, which means that all you will need to check out the beauty of the reef along with the colorful fish who call it home is a pair of snorkeling goggles and some water shoes (the beaches of this area are pretty rocky and filled with coral, not sand). This area is super popular for tourists who flock to these beaches, so if you are looking to avoid the crowds, you may want to avoid the coral gardens.

Vaitape, Bora Bora

Nestled on the west coast of the island, you will find the main town of Bora Bora. Though many who visit Bora Bora seek to explore the natural aspects of the area, Vaitape is a great place to enjoy a good meal, some entertainment, have a drink or do some shopping! There are a ton of souvenir shops and plenty of places to check out if you are seeking to enjoy some time away from mother nature!

Stingray and Shark Feeding

What better way to enjoy the sea life of Bora Bora and get up close and personal with them then by feeding them? There are a good number of tours that are available in the area that offer not only snorkeling, but also provide you with the opportunity to be able to feel stingrays and sharks, in a safe manner! On one of the tours that you choose, you will have the first-hand opportunity to  be able to interact with the local species of both blacktip reef sharks and also stingrays in their own natural habitats. And don’t worry, the sharks are small and the stingrays are harmless, and your guides will be sure to make you feel safe and at ease during the tours! Even if you don't quite feel comfortable feeling them, you can still take advantage of enjoying the reefs and native fish on a guided snorkeling adventure.

Bora Bora Lagoonarium

One spot that you certainly will not want to miss is the Bora Bora Lagoonarium. The Bora Bora Lagoonarium is an all-natural aquarium that is situated on a small island, that is just east of the main island. One of the nicest features about the family-owned Lagoonarium is the fact that you can even take advantage of snorkeling the area under the safety and supervision of a wildlife guide on-site. Just below the surface of the lagoon, you will be able to view turtles, stingrays, sharks, turtles and tons of species’ of colorful fish, up close and personal! Depending on the type of tour that you select, there are a ton of added features, like canoe rides and barbecue picnics that you can enjoy as well!  While this is most certainly a family-friendly attraction, if you or a loved one is reluctant to touch (or be touched) by any of the ocean wildlife, you may want to avoid snorkeling, because chances are that you will come in close contact with some of the species.

Enjoying your next holiday in Bora Bora is most certainly not something that you will regret. There is so much to do and explore on a manner of different levels and there is definitely something to be enjoyed by everyone! Whether you opt to hire a guide and stick with itineraries, or just see where your adventure will lead you, you are sure to find all the beauty and wonder you can imagine, awaiting you in Bora Bora.
